About Us

Homewood is a suburban community of approximately seven square miles and 25,000 residents. It is conveniently located in the southern section of the Greater Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan area. The people of Homewood enjoy a great quality of life because of their award winning school system, great shopping, quality churches and top- notch city services.

The police department offers 24- hour protection and a number of specialized services. It is comprised of over 70 sworn officers and approximately 30 non-sworn support personnel. The department is divided into three divisions. The Patrol Division, Detective Division and Administrative Division.

The Patrol Division is comprised of three patrol shifts, the Special Operations Unit that over sees traffic safety, parking control and our special events. The Communications Center that houses the 911 operations is also under this division.

The Detective Division is made up of a General Investigative Unit that is responsible for the investigation of crimes against persons, crimes against property, financial crimes and our Community Services Unit that supervises the School Resource Officers and DARE. The department’s full-time Narcotics Unit and Evidence Unit, that employs a full-time latent fingerprint examiner, also operate under this Division.

The Administrative Division oversees a wide range of support units. These units include the jail, financial office, training unit and internal affairs.
