Car Burglary Suspect Arrested

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 13, 2026

 

On May 10th, 2026, at approximately 10:45 AM, the Homewood Police Department began receiving calls regarding a suspicious person seen entering residents’ vehicles in the 100 block of St. Charles Street. Multiple Homewood Police officers quickly responded and began checking the area. Officers located the suspect in the 400 block of St. Charles Street and attempted to detain him, at which point the suspect fled on foot. Officers pursed the suspect through the neighborhood, until he was apprehended in the 900 block of Irving Road. After speaking to residents, officers were able to determine that the suspect had illegally entered two vehicles and stolen property from each one, all of which was returned to their owners.


   Lucas Durham Moore, age 23, of Vestavia Hills, AL was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

• Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle x 2 ($15,000 bond each)

• Theft of Property – Third Degree ($10,000 bond)

• Theft of Property – Fourth Degree ($3,000 bond)

• Attempting to Elude a Police Officer ($6,000 bond)

• Resisting Arrest ($3,000 bond)


   

Moore was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on the above listed charges.

   

The Homewood Police Department would like to sincerely thank the Edgewood residents for their assistance in this investigation, including locating stolen property and providing doorbell camera footage to officers.

August 10, 2026 The Homewood Police Department took home the win Friday night in the National Night Out Battle of the Badges softball game, defeating our friends over at the Fire Department. That's the second series win of the year for HPD over HFD! A special congratulations to #14 Officer Teter who, before the game, stepped up to the plate and claimed the Home Run Derby title!  Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support National Night Out. These events are what make our community strong - neighbors, first responders, and good times all around!

Crime Report for the Week of August 3, 2026 07/29/26 Stolen Vehicle Arrest - A vehicle was stopped in the 200 block of Lakeshore Pkwy. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and the drover was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property. 07/30/26 Narcotics Arrest - Officers responded to a suspicions person call in the 400 block of Greensprings Hwy. The subject was in possession of fentanyl and was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. 08/01/26 UBEV - An unlocked vehicle was entered in the 2000 block of Medical Center Drive and a pistol was stolen.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 29, 2026 A Craftsman riding lawnmower was found this morning in the creek near the intersection of Broadway and Saulter Road. It was recovered and turned in to the Homewood Police Department as found property. If this lawn mower belongs to you, please call the Homewood PD Property Room at 205-332-6226. Proof of ownership will be required for release.

Crime Report for the Week of July 27, 2026 07/21/26 Burglary - An apartment in the 900 block of Valley Ridge Drive was burglarized and multiple electronics were stolen. 07/25/26 DUI Arrest - Officers responded to a wreck in the 500 block of Brookwood Blvd. One of the involved drivers was arrested for DUI. 07/25/26 DUI Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 2800 block of 18th Street South and the driver was arrested for DUI.

Crime Report for the Week of July 20, 2026  07/13/26 Narcotics Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 100 block of State Farm Pkwy. The driver was in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl and was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. 07/13/26 Residential Burglary - A residence in the 1500 block of 27th Court South was burglarized and tools were stolen. 07/16/26 DUI Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 100 block of Edgewood Blvd and the driver was arrested for DUI. 07/16/26 UBEV - An unlocked vehicle was entered in the 500 block of Hickory Knoll and personal items were stolen. 07/16/26 DUI Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of Summit Blvd and the driver was arrested for DUI. 07/17/26 Vehicle Theft - An unlocked vehicle with the keys left inside it was stolen from the 100 block of Bonita Drive. The vehicle also contained the victim's purse and a pistol. 07/18/26 DUI Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 3000 block of Independence Drive and the driver was arrested for DUI. 07/18/26 Robbery - A suspect armed with a handgun robbed a business in the 400 block of Greensprings Hwy and stole several hundred dollars in cash.

Crime Report for the Week of July 6, 2026 07/03/26 DUI Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of West Valley Ave and the driver was arrested for DUI. 07/05/26 UBEV - An unlocked vehicle was entered in the 3400 block of Waverly Place and a wallet was stolen. 07/05/26 Bike Theft - An unsecured e-bike was stolen from the 200 block of Lakeshore Pkwy.
