Accidental Death Investigation
On April 4th, 2025, at approximately 1337 hours, Homewood Police Department dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible accident on the I-65 northbound off-ramp at Oxmoor Rd. Officers arrived on scene and found a subject deceased from an accident involving a riding lawnmower.
The deceased subject was an employee of a private landscaping company which was contracted by the City of Homewood to mow the grass on the state right-of-way on I-65 at Oxmoor Rd. After interviewing witnesses, it was determined that the subject was operating a riding lawnmower on a steep embankment on the off-ramp of I-65 northbound at Oxmoor Rd. The subject was attempting to drive the lawnmower up the embankment when it flipped over, resulting in his death.
The subject was pronounced deceased on scene by medics with the Homewood Fire Department. Homewood Police Department Evidence Technicians responded and processed the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office responded and took custody of the deceased. The accident scene is no longer active.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 9th, 2026 Drug Trafficking Suspects Arrested On December 19th, 2025, members of the Homewood Police Tactical Team, Special Investigations Unit, K9 Unit, and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms executed a search warrant in the 1500 block of Warrior Road in Birmingham from a narcotics case which originated in Homewood. During the execution of the search warrant, Jessica Yvonne Moore (age 39) and Destiney Renee Jones (age 35), both from Birmingham, were detained. Officers recovered 28 pounds of methamphetamine, $13,000 in cash, and four firearms, one of which was stolen. Both Moore and Jones were subsequently arrested and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Moore was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. They were transferred to Jefferson County Jail with the following bonds: Jessica Moore • Trafficking Methamphetamine $1,000,000 bond • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance $10,000 bond • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia $3,000 bond Destiney Jones • Trafficking Methamphetamine $500,000 bond • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia $500 bond Additional federal criminal charges related to the case are pending.

The driver was in possession of marijuana and was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. 2/5/26 Trailer Theft - A utility trailer was stolen from the 200 block of Oxmoor Circle. 2/5/26 Trailer Theft - A utility trailer was stolen from the 200 block of Oxmoor Circle. 2/6/26 Trailer Theft - A utility trailer was stolen from the 200 block of Distribution Drive.
Crime Report for the Week of February 2, 2026 1/29/26 Disorderly Conduct Arrest - Officers responded to a disorderly subject in the roadway on 18th Street and Rosedale Drive. The subject was yelling and cussing in the middle of the roadway, obstructing traffic, and was arrested for Disorderly Conduct. 1/31/26 Narcotics Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of Oxmoor Road. The driver was in possession of marijuana and a stolen firearm and was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Receiving Stolen Property.
Crime Report for the Week of January 26, 2026 January 29, 2026 at 11:32 AM 1/20/26 Narcotics Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of Greensprings Hwy. The driver was in possession of marijuana and was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. 1/20/26 Public Intox Arrest - An intoxicated subject was walking in the roadway in the 400 block of West Valley Ave and was arrested for Public Intoxication. 1/23/26 DUI Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 100 block of State Farm Pkwy and the driver was arrested for DUI. 1/25/26 DUI Arrest - Officers responded to a wreck on Lakeshore Pkwy near I-65. One of the drivers was intoxicated and was arrested for DUI. 1/26/26 DUI Arrest - Officers responded to a wreck on Lakeshore Dr and Greensprings Hwy. One of the drivers was intoxicated and was arrested for DUI.
Crime Report for the Week of January 19, 2026 1/16/26 Narcotics Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 100 block of Greensprings Hwy. The driver was in possession of methamphetamine and crack cocaine and was arrested for Drug Trafficking. 1/17/26 Public Intox Arrest - Officers responded to the 2800 block of Crescent Ave on an intoxicated subject. The subject was located and was arrested for Public Intoxication.

The subject was in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. 1/6/26 UBEV - An unlocked vehicle was entered in the 300 block of Berkeley Place and a pistol was stolen. 1/6/26 UBEV - An unlocked vehicle was entered in the 1100 block of Crest Ave and a Macbook was stolen. 1/11/26 Narcotics Arrest - A vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in 300 block of Valley Ave and the driver was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
